Applied Compassion Capstone Project

An essential part of the ACT training is an Applied Compassion Capstone Project that each participant will create, deliver, and report back on during the course of the Applied Compassion Training.

Participants will begin designing and developing these projects right from the start of the program and will be required to deliver them by Summer 2024, reporting back to the faculty by October 2024.  Capstone Projects need to be delivered/implemented in a public setting during the ACT program. Capstone Projects have been delivered in workplace environments like hospitals, offices, classrooms, online via workshops or podcasts, or in a community or volunteer setting.

Fully completed Capstone Projects are a requirement in order to receive the certificate of completion from CCARE at Stanford by the culmination of the program (November 2024).

Please consider if this is achievable for you at this time. If you're unable to fulfill these requirements, please postpone your registration to a future ACT program.

Additional Program Requirements

In addition to completing an Applied Compassion Capstone Project, in order to receive your certificate of completion from CCARE at Stanford University, all ACT program requirements must be met.

A foundation of the ACT training are the experiential processes and practices of Applied Compassion. ACT is a highly-engaged community that comes together regularly in-person online over the  course of the 11-month program. Due to the highly experiential and relational nature of compassion, it's essential for each participant as well as for the cohesion of the group, that people in ACT participate live. Live (online) participation is an integral component of the ACT program. In ACT, live participation means attending live online free of distractions, engaging in the practices and processes of applied compassion, with video cameras on for the duration of the session.

The ACT program requirements include:

  • Live online participation at all three 3-day immersive retreats (January 26-28, July 19-21 and November 1-3, 2024)

  • Live online participation at a smaller monthly mentoring group (you will be able to choose your monthly mentoring group day/time)

  • Regular 1:1 meetings with an ACT Faculty Mentor

  • Participating in the monthly teaching modules and monthly practice modules (these modules can be completed live online or through watching the recordings, completing the exercises, and submitting written documentation to meet the program requirements

  • Delivering an Applied Compassion Capstone Project by October 2024.

We recognize that for some participants, depending on timezone, attending three retreats in-person online may be challenging.

If you're unable to fulfill these requirements at this time, please consider postponing your registration to a future ACT program.
